Shia Muslims mourn martyrdom anniversary of Eighth Imam

Millions of Shia Muslims from around the world attended mourning processions to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Ali Ibn Musa al-Ridha, peace be upon him.

Black-clad mourners from across Iran and from various social classes and age groups came together on feet to perform the pilgrimage rituals at Imam Ridha holy shrine.

Millions of pilgrims from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan and several other countries also flocked to the holy city of Mashhad in the northeastern province of Khorasan to mark the occasion at Imam Ridha’s holy mausoleum.
